In landlocked Buxton, our team practised on water only once! All our other practice meetings were in the car park using chairs and sticks to get the strokes and timing right. On the day of the race, it was very windy, but we got off to a good start. HSBC, the team next to us, sank, but we made reasonably good time, faster than the Manchester City football team and Adidas. Our team enjoyed the excitement and the challenge, and we are all immensely proud of their achievement. The positive impact on the confidence, self-belief and mental health of our team members has inspired us to organise more team challenges.
We chose a dragon boat race because it does not matter about strength, it does not matter whether you are big or small, male or female. It is all about working together as a team. The fastest teams are not necessarily the strongest but the ones who can work best together. Zink is hoping to get another team together to enter the race in 2026.
