We also have access to a few schemes that can pay for household essentials like bedding or a cooker if you cant afford them yourself. We would only need to see evidence that you can not afford them yourself. This could be a current bank statement, proof of ID etc.
If you are struggling to sort things at home, get in touch with us right away. If we can not help, we may be able to advise or point you to somewhere that can!
Benefits issues or help with applications
Sudden changes in benefits and income can cause short term financial insecurity.
We know this is a huge worry and causes families to struggle, so we have advisors who can support you to get things sorted. This could be help to claim benefits or resolve a benefit issue, with housing or energy bills, or to get essential household items.
We can also check which benefits you are entitled to given your personal circumstances.
Will employment work for me?
It can often be an anxious time when you come off benefits to start working. Our coaches will help you calculate the difference work will make to your income, talk through any hidden costs; like prescriptions and childcare, to make sure you are making the right choices for you and your family.
We can refer you to the foodbank to access food parcels and sometimes arrange other support to bridge the gap between benefits ending and your first wage payment.
Help with budgeting
Budgeting can be challenging for everyone; we can support you to learn effective ways to handle your money so your budget works for your personal situation.
Our coaches will go through your income and outgoings with you and guide you to plan for things like cold winter months when bills suddenly jump up, school holidays, birthdays, Christmas and emergency expenditure.
Help to overcome housing issues
Our advice worker can guide you through the application process for a new home or help resolve issues with your existing home. If you are homeless, we’ll support you to make an emergency application to the council.
